Position Summary: 

 

The Food Buyer is responsible for procuring goods and services for the supply chain particularly with respect to food and beverage procurement. The role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders, primarily food and beverage management, to understand their purchasing needs and requirements and conducting market research to identify potential suppliers. The Buyer advises and assists on negotiations and pricing terms to ensure cost-effective procurement, while maintaining accurate records of purchases and monitoring supplier performance. The role works to achieve operational targets within the job area, which has some impact on the overall achievement of results for the department. The Buyer work is of limited scope, typically on smaller, less complex projects or task-related activities, and is closely supervised. Overall, this role plays a critical part in the smooth operation of the purchasing department, contributing to achieving operational targets.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Acquire goods and services from approved food and beverage suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Acquires goods and services from all other approved suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Guides internal stakeholders on procurement processes, guiding supplier selection and contract negotiation.
  • Maintains food and beverage supplier relationships, including regular communication and performance evaluations.
  • Advises on market trends and pricing fluctuations, identifying opportunities for cost savings and value enhancement.
  • Reviews inventory management, ensuring optimal stock levels to meet operational needs.
  • Maintains accurate records of purchases, including contracts, invoices, and delivery documentation.
  • Addresses any issues or discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Advises on procurement strategies, recommending improvements to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring adherence to legal and ethical standards in procurement activities.
  • HRO Tender Process Management for large-value projects.
  • Attends trade shows, product exhibitions, and conferences to maintain an understanding of new products and trends.

Experience , Certifications, Education:

  • Post-Secondary Degree preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal negotiation skills.
  • Purchasing and Inventory management skills 2 years of related experience.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional departments.
  • Experience in casino and/or hotel environments preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Computer savvy and able to learn in-house applications quickly and effectively

Qualifications

Skills: 

  • Knowledge of procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, email, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of reviewing inventory stock levels and placing orders to maintain par levels.
  • Knowledge of interviewing and identifying potential new vendors and suppliers to secure more cost-effective sources of products and services.
  • Knowledge of the Accounts Payable department to address differences between order pricing and receiving quantities.
  • Communication and negotiation skills.
  • Personal and mini-frame computer skills.
  • Knowledge of IP computer systems.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk distances.
  • The employee must frequently lift/push/pull and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Duties and responsibilities are typically performed in a highly regulated and controlled environment, but there will be times where you will need to be on the Casino Floor to complete job functions as outlined or pass through this area. On the Casino Floor, you may be exposed to casino-related environmental factors including, but not limited to, excessive noise.
